This is a followup to bug reports and previous conversations on this list. Original OOo bug report here: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=74478 Bug report filed with Ubuntu here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org-amd64/+bug/85248 There are three problems in OOo 2.0.4 on Ubuntu Edgy amd64 for some users. These problems are likely all caused by the same issue: 1) Drag and drop of text within a document is broken 2) File > Wizard > Web will crash OOo every time 3) Many options in Tools > Options are stuck and cannot be changed I determined that the problem is most likely in Ubuntu Edgy amd64. It is definitely not in my installation of OOo 2.0.4 or my installation of Edgy amd64 because the problem persists even if I run OOo from the Edgy amd64 live/install CD. Plus, I installed OOo 2.1 and the problem was not resolved. Today I downloaded Ubuntu Feisty Herd 5 amd64 and ran it from the live/install CD. Ubuntu always includes OOo on live/install CDs. As soon as it booted I launched Writer. I typed a few words in a blank document, then dragged and dropped a word to another location in the sentence. It worked! Then I tried File > Wizards > Web and it worked! Then I went into Tools > Options > Writer and noticed that the settings that were stuck before are no longer stuck. Yay! I noticed that the splash screen said OOo 2.0. But the Help > About menu said 2.1, 2/23/2007. They probably just haven't changed the splash screen yet. Feisty is set to be released in April. By that time OOo 2.2 will be out, so maybe they'll include 2.2 instead of 2.1. The bug report I filed in Ubuntu has no comment or notice that it has been assigned to anyone. But I guess it doesn't matter if the problem has been resolved for Feisty. Let us all keep our fingers crossed that they don't muck it up by the time Feisty final is released.
Thanks, JJJ for the update ! Hope, as you say, that nobody manages to muck up the Feisty-OOo interface before the former is released in April. But let us also hope that some of the issues in OOo 2.1 that have recently been discussed on this forum will be fixed in the upcoming 2.2 release !... Henri
