Can you do anything else with your Mac while this happens?

I've run into the same situation. However, this was with a very
lengthy document and I broke the document into several parts to make
them smaller and easier to handle/save/edit.

Can you give me the size of the document? I suspect that it is very
large at this point (several hundred MB in size.)

I don't think the problem is with OpenOffice.org. I think the problem
is that you are saving every change to the document and that is causing
the entire document to be very large. If you don't need this function
I would not use it. I've run into this with Microsoft Office documents
and inadvertantly created a 64MB Word document and I had to clean it
out of the changes and start again as if it was an original document.

That is what this mailing list is for. As an exception, I will ask
that you send me a copy of the document you are working on. Please
be aware that I have many things to do during the day and it may take
a while for a reply from me. Also, I serve in the capacity of the
QA Coordinator for the Mac OS X releases and this is a problem that
needs to be investigated.

I have directly Carbon Copied you as I think you are not subscribed
to this mailing list.
