It seems you are on Windows. I'd hazard a guess that the Quickstarter is running. The Quickstarter seems to prevent dictionaries and other preferential data being updated. Try turning it off and running Writer from the Start>All Programs>OpenOffice.org menu. It will be slightly slower to start but you will avoid this and several problems. To turn off Quickstarter, look in the System Tray (probably bottom right of your screen). If Quickstarter is running there will be a blue/grey icon with flying birds on it. *Right* click on this icon and (a) choose not to have OpenOffice load on system start up and then (b) choose Exit. -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
