The question has been asked often and has me and others not familiar with the
Mac baffled.  I do not understand why you cannot create icons for the other
applications.

I gather that the only way to open the other applications is to launch the
software and use File >New >>

http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/support.html .  I understand that, as long
as you have read the FAQs, it is acceptable to post questions to the Mac dev
list.
