It sounds as though your download is faulty.  You can check it with what is
known as md5sum.  It's a type of checksum.  md5sums for the various
downloadable files are on the following page, which also contains a link to
a page containing instructions for using the procedure: 
http://download.openoffice.org/2.1.0/md5sums.html

BTW, when you post for assistance, make sure the title of your post (email
subject) is appropriate.  That way you will attract the attention of users
with an interest in or knowledge of the subject.
