Hi Michael,
I created and maintain the Australian English dictionary files.
Strangely enough there are many people from New Zealand who use the
dictionary files I produce.
If you continue having trouble after you try the dictionary wizard (File
> Wizards > Install new dictionaries), you may wish to install the
dictionary files manually.
Many people have successfully used the instructions on the following
page to install the Australian English dictionary files.

If you read these instructions you should be able to apply the same
approach for the New Zealand dictionary files.
The differences for New Zealand are the dictionary.lst file needs to be
changed and you need a copy of the New Zealand dictionary files,
available from the OpenOffice.org project.
