Did you look in START - ALL PROGRAMS - scroll all the way to the bottom,
new programs get put at the end unless you right-click the list and sort
by name. Installing OpenOffice puts an OppenOffice.org folder with the
individual office suite launch icons in it.

OK, I have spent a long time now and I am stumped. I went to Open
Office to download. I paused to donate. I went back to download. The
main download address you give (when the button takes me to) takes me
to nothing. I have tried repeatedly. Then I went to mirror sites and
found one that opened. I get a big, big list of vesions for MAC.
Solaris, and Win32. Is this for me, I wonder, using Windows XP as I
do. No hint of which is the right one. I don't live in the USA, so I
choose a non-US Win32 .exe file. It is 37 Megs and downloads. I open.
I install. I get a lovely icon. That icon is not for Open Office, but
to install. I also have a folder of zipped and other files. Nothing in
my program files. I am stumped. Have I not just installed? I click on
the pretty icon and install. Nothing in my program files. I reboot.
Nothing in my program files. All I have is the install icon, which
only installs. But nothing installs, or I can't find it, despite the
fact that I take every default choice.
I am now stopped. I can't do anything. I wonder if it is this
experience that makes people stick with Microsoft.
What am I doing wrong? Why is it so hard to download this? Why does it
seem addressed to serious techies?
Any help gratefully received.
