     You might try this. Right click on a .doc file. Select "Open 
with" from the menu. Scroll down through the list of programs to find 
MS Word, and click it to highlight it. Click the box at the bottom of 
that window labeled: always use this program to open this type file 
(or words to that effect). Click OK. This should change the icon of 
the file from OOo to Word. Do the same thing for your PowerPoint 
files and any other MS Office files with the wrong type of icon.
