Hello,

The only thing I have needed to do in those cases is to drag the older
version (in the /Applications folder) to the Trash...

If you have personal dictionaries or other modifications (not globally
installed, but only for you) you may want to backup the directory:

~username/Library/Application\ Support/OpenOffice.org\ 2.0

and, possibly:

~username/.openoffice.org2/

so you can easily reinstall them.
