Try this. Use Tools > AutoCorrect > Replace (tab) to access the
replace tables. Erase what is in the "Replace" box and enter a double
dash in it. Use the tab key to move to the "With" box and highlight
the entry. Right click the "With" box and select Special Character
from the context menu. You should find the "em dash" as character
2014. Scroll to the bottom. The "em dash" is three rows up and four
characters to the left. Click OK to insert it into the "With" box.
Then click the New button. Finally click the OK button at the bottom
of the AutoCorrect window. Every time you use a double dash, it
should be replaced with the "em dash".
Actually you can do the same thing in Writer as you did in Word:
Insert > Special character and select the "em dash" in the location I
just mentioned. But by using AutoCorrect instead, you only have to
find this special character once. After that, the program will
automatically make the change for you.
