I use Thunderbird, not only as an email/news client,

Interesting - are you able to provide a web link
describing the procedure or give a few pointers?
Many thanks.
In OOo go to

and tell it what e-mail client you want it to use.
Another question is how to get snail mail addresses from Thunderbird's
address book. Thanks
What I've done, is start Base. Select "Connect to Existing Database",
and choose "Thunderbird Address Book" from the drop down. It will ask
you where to save the odb file, and then you are set to go.
Because you are using the Address Book as the source database, any
changes to the Address book are immediately reflected in the database.
Once you have it set up, you can use queries to get subsets of the
addresses using any criteria you wish.
