Where I work they do not allow the installation of anything on the
computer. Does anyone know of a way to get the word processor and
spreadsheet portion of Openoffice to run from a cdrom or DVD?

I don't know of a DVD/CD version, but have a check below for a version that
runs form a USB stick:
