However, I have come upon one problem that I can't find the answer to nor figure it out. When I type a new page using this program, it comes in an .odt file. When trying to send it to someone else that has MS Word, it won't even go through. Then I change it to a .doc file (and it tells me I shouldn't) and then sometimes they can get it but once in awhile they can't get it in word. > > What can I do about this? > > Thanks, > > Jack Young 1600 N. I do this for my customers that primarily use and interface with MS Office people on a regular basis - also for my college student son that has been using linux & OOo for over a year now but forgets to convert so he can send docs/spreadsheets/presentations to class: Tools|Options|Load/Save|General: Default file format Document type Always save as Text document Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP Spreadsheet Microsoft Excel 97/2000/XP Presentation Microsoft PowerPoint 97/2000/XP Tools|Options|Load/Save|Microsoft Office - all boxes checked That defeats the advantages of an OOo OpenDocument format (file size, PDF size, etc., etc. But it eliminates the confusion of using OOo in an MS Office environment. Also be aware that doing the above can (and will on some occasions) create formating problems between the OOo & MS Office formats - so if you want to ensure that the recipient gets a version that is true to your document formating etc., I'd recomend that you Export as PDF and then send them the PDF version for viewing & printing. Note: they will not be able to edit the PDF file. If you wish to (hopefully) continue to use the OOo file formats, then do as other have suggested and save the file as a MS Office formated file: File|Save As File type: click down arrow Microsoft whatever Make sure that the box for "Automatic file name extention is clicked - *or* make sure that you name the file with the appropriate file extension; e.g., .doc .xls .ppt BTW: You really should not post your address, phone number etc., unless of course you are looking to advertise those on the internet.
