Little more info and I'm sure we can supply the answer... ADDITIONALLY, wh en I attached the OpenOffice equivalent of Excel, and fwd. it in an email, the recipient was unable to open it. I just read today on the Open Office site where you pay $45 for the product, that it (oo) is completely compatible with MS Office. This as you can see, is not my experience nor that of my co-horts. How can this be remedied? Thanks >
OOo is compatible with Excel (and other MS Office products) but you must save the file as such. OOo has its own ISO compliant file format (.odt, .ods, etc...) which is far better when creating and saving documents when your using OOo. However you can also use OOo to save your files in standard MS Office formats as well (eg, .doc, .xls)... For example, if you wanted to send your friend a spreadsheet created using OOo and they only had Excel, then you would use the file > send
email as microsoft excel... this will mean that OOo will convert the
file into Excel format (if it is not in that format already), attach it to an email for you to complete and send. Alternatively if you only wanted to save the file in excel format, then file > save as > then select the excel format from the drop down menu...
