2007/5/2, Ray Gray <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Just installed OpenOffice on my new MacBook.

Now I can't seem to launch it.....

On install it opened a test document, which I saved on the desktop as
a quick way to get back to OpenOffice. But the MAC doesn't know what
application to use to open the saved file. Even worse, I can't find
OpenOffice in the list of available applications.

Beyond that, I hope to assign all of the MS Office files to
OpenOffice. For example, i have lots of Excel files, .xml, that I
can use via OpenOffice once I get the association changed from
AppleWorks.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Ray

Welcome to OpenOffice.org

Install
If you can't find OOo among your Programs/Applications, did you really
install it? Once you've downloaded the file, you have to unpack it,
then drag the icon to your Applications folder (it then copies its
files to a folder OOo 2.2or whatever version it is). After installing,
you can drag the icon to the dock to have the program easily
available.

File association:
To tell your OS that it should always use OOo to open a certain type
of file, click on such a file, click Apple-I (info) and in the 5th
item (Open with) chose OpenOffice.org 2.2 (if OOo isn't mentioned, you
van make it appear by chosing Other, then going to OOo in Finder). You
then click on Change all to indicate that OOo should always be used
toi open this kind of file.
(repeat for doc, xls, ppt...)

Good luck
