   What is the file extension for your file? If I remember correctly, 
Word Pad will save files in both .rtf and .doc formats. When I use to 
use Word Pad, anything I saved was in .doc format unless I specified 
it as .rtf. 
   You might want to check your file associations. Is it possible 
that .doc files are associated with Word Pad instead of Word?
