Hi,

Does anyone know how to configure OpenOffice Writer in such a way
that hitting enter at the end of a URL like "http://www.google.com"; does
not create a hyperlink inside the document itself and perform automatic

For some of the documents I write this auto formatting feature of
URLs is very annoying and wastes time.

Thanks a bunch,

As someone has already pointed out, this is a facet of the AutoCorrect function, and you may turn it off by going to Tools | AutoCorrect... | Options and removing a tick or ticks from the boxes next to "URL Recognition". This is good advice.

But there is another idea that may be helpful. When you press some keystrokes after a URL that result in the creation of a hyperlink, two things have happened: first the normal effect of the keystroke and then the AutoCorrect itself. Writer treats these as two operations, so if you immediately use Undo (either at Edit | Undo or by typing Ctrl+Z), Writer will undo the AutoCorrect and leave the normal effect of the keystroke. This is useful if you sometimes want this automatic function to happen and sometimes don't.

Unfortunately, this solution does *not* work neatly in your specific case of the Enter key, but it is useful if you type, say, a space after a URL in running text. It *does* work if you enter a line break instead, by typing Shift+Enter. In your original case of Enter, you'll have to use Plan A instead.
