I have several questions that need to be answered. What was the
older version of OpenOffice.org? What are version are you using now?
What type of files were these "math" files? (spreadsheet, database).
What is the file extension if you know it? What version of JRE if any
are you using? (OOo 2.0.0 and later requires a JRE version of at
least 1.5. It can be downloaded from www.java.com.)
