Hi Michael,
 The charting aspect of Calc is undergoing major improvements - it is not yet 
ready for production use but is very close. However you can download and test 
these new charting features from :
http://graphics.openoffice.org/chart/chart.html

Feedback to those developers would be very welcomed.
