People do this all the time. There are a few things to remember,
however. Some functions are not written the same way in OOo Calc and
Excel. For example, Excel will use commas to divide the parameters
while Calc will use a semi-colon. Calc requires a = in the front of
all functions. Finally, Macros are written in different languages in
these two programs: VBA in Excel and Star Basic in Calc.
