I don't know where you got OpenOffice from, but you don't have to pay
for it.  It's a free download from www.openoffice.org.  You can however
buy a CD copy, if you don't have broadband access.  There are several
vendors who charge a nominal fee for that option.  Avoid those "vendors"
who only sell you access to a link for downloading.  They are providing
you nothing that you don't already have available for free.  The latest
version is 2.2
