Hello again,
I think I understand the problem finally. Do I have to have the X11
Environment? Is there a way around that? Thank you.

Hello Nick
Yes, you need to have the X11 environment on a Mac to run OpenOffice.org.
That is: for the time being, as a native ('Aqua') version will be
released sometime later this year probably.
The other option is to use NeoOffice, a 'fork' from OpenOffice.org
that is native on Mac. I'm not a fan of NO, but it maybe an option if
you have problems with X11.
