OpenOffice.org only has one license which covers private as well
as public and commercial uses. You will find the license here:
www.openoffice.org/license.html. Have this license read by someone who
can give you a legal opinion. They should tell you what I am about to
write: you can install OpenOffice.org on as many computers in as many
universities as you want. Your total cost will all be involved in
installing the program on all the computers. You are also permitted
to provide copies of the program for students who would want to have
a copy on their person computers.
One more important point to consider. Sun Microsystems has a
program called Star Office which is based upon OpenOffice.org. Star
Office has some proprietary items that OOo does not have. Being a
educational institution, you should be able to get a license at no
cost to install Star Office instead of OpenOffice.org on the
computers in the universities and the students' computers. For this,
you need to check www.sun.com/staroffice/.
