This morning OO2.2 stopped opening on my Windows XP SP2 system. The soffice process would run - at times showing the splash screen - but the program wouldn't open. I tried every uninstall, repair and reinstall option I could think of and some potential solutions I gleaned from the Web, all to no avail, as follows:

When trying to uninstall:

OpenOffice.org 2.2
Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\Config.Ms\831b5.rbf.
Verify that you have access to that directory.

Followed by "Fatal error during installation" message.

When trying to repair:

The feature your are trying to use is on a network resource that is
unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the
installation package 'openofficeorg22.msi' in the box below.

[The "box below" under "Use source:" is C:\Documents and
Settings\Default\Desktop\OpenOffice.org 2.2. Installation Files\]

When I try repairing from a new download, I get:

OpenOffice.org 2.2 Installation Wizard
Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\Config.Ms\2ecOe2.rbf.
Verify that you have access to that directory.

Even after using Windows Installer Cleanup to zap OO2.2, when installing OO2.2 I continue to get:

OpenOffice.org 2.2 Installation Wizard
Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\Config.Ms\2ecOe2.rbf.
Verify that you have access to that directory.

Problem persists even after following MS's solution for this kind of error (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/296175):
Method 2
Unregister and reregister Windows Installer. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, and then click Run.
     2. In the Open box, type msiexec /unreg, and then press ENTER.
     3. Click Start, and then click Run.
     4. In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver, and then press ENTER.

Method 1 seems unapplicable in my case, unless it considers me a "terminal user" since I installed a wireless network and began connecting via USB receiver a few days ago. But all the files I'm trying to access are on my "local" computer.

Thanks. I hope you can help.
