Another added note: I just tried both the original PPT and the OOo saved
PPT and otp file on Ubuntu's Ubuntu'ized OOo 2.2 and the sound runs just
fine. No JMF (I'll still working on 'properly' installing on my standard
OOo versions), nothing... it just works.

So it appears that Ubuntu have taken the initiative and modified OOo to
work with a gstreamer plugin of sorts, and basic sound works out of the
box. Unfortunately (U)OOo has broken wizards and Base address issues so
it's not a viable option for production work. It amazes me that distro
specific versions of OOo can provide sound and import filters (WP if I
recall), and yet simple sound for Impress presentations are not
available in the standard OOo linux?

Further, the instructions for installing & implementing JMF per the User
Guide calls for actually editing the soffice executable:

====
2. Edit the soffice executable that is used to invoke OpenOffice.org (maybe
/opt/openoffice.org2.0/program/soffice) and add the following near or at
else
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$sd_prog$add_moz_lib"
fi
so it looks like this:
else
LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$sd_prog$add_moz_lib:$JMFHOME/lib"
fi
remembering to substitute $JMFHOME with the path to where JMF is
installed and save
the file.
====

So OOo expect linux users to modify an executable (I take this to mean
the shell script vs the soffice.bin) just to get JMF to run... amazing.
