The answer is yes.

I would start by using it yourself and seeing if you can interoperate with
others at work and the documents that the company already has. If you
can do so reasonably, then you might consider having others adopt OOo
a few at a time. Start with the more open minded and adventuresome.

It would also be nice to have some documents and things lined up that you
have done in OOo that show off things that MS Office either cannot do or
are much more difficult to do.

One of the big problems that MS Word users that I have know who try to make the switch is that OOo is much more oriented to structured document creating whereas Word is allows you to easily do anything you want on a page with no regard for style or rules. Fine for a short individual document, but not good when you want to do a longer document or maintain a corporate style to your documens across multiple authors over a period of time. These are areas where OOo is a
better choice.
