Hello, I cannot open any email sent to me from person using Microsoft Office. I do not have that application & can't afford it. I was told to
Download this "MS Open Office" application at no cost & that would help. I have done that & still cant open anything. As soon as
I click on the "attachment" in the email, I get that pop up that asks for :Administration Rights & starts to activate the
"Windows Installer".It wont complete because I don't have a CD to imput the 25 character product key found on the back of it. Is this a
set up problem with Verizon, aHP proplem or a Microsoft problem? This was never set up right thru Verizon & I can't get any help.I do have a CD
named:" Microsoft Works with Windows" . Is this the same & should I download & install that?I don't want to download something
that I have to pay for, can't afford it. Can you advise? Thank You....Joanne ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] )

If the person sending the file is using MS Office 2007 they're likely saving in the new .docs file format, which only Office 2007 can read. Ask them to save in the old .doc format and OpenOffice will be able to read it. Incidentally, this is "OpenOffice", not MS OpenOffice. It has nothing to do with Microsoft, but is closely related to Sun's StarOffice. I believe there is a "free" demo version of MS Office 2007 available, but it is time limited and any Office 2007 files you have will again be unusable, unless you buy the full version. This is Microsoft's way to lock in customers. They try to make it as difficult as possible to use competitive applications. That alone is reason enough to avoid buying MS Office.
