Try running a recent version of MS Office for a more realistic
comparison.  Older versions of OO required fewer resources too.  Also,
parts of MS Office are loaded during boot.  MS has also been found to
use hidden API in the past, to give a performance boost to their own
apps that was unavailable to competitors.
