Have a look at File -> Templates -> Organize
Double-click on a folder on the left to view the names of any templates
in it. Double-click on a template to see the names of all styles (tip:
they're ordered by style type). Double-click on an open document on the
right to see the names of all styles in the document. Drag a style from
the document to the template to propagate changes.
***DISCLAIMER: In some versions, this is buggy and can result in a)
crashes of Writer or b) loss of styles from the document.***

PS. Ideally, you shouldn't be doing that much style editing while you're
writing a document. I try to create the template, write the documents,
then modify the template.

Hi. I have to write a large document, and adopted the setup described
in the writer guide, page 332 onwards (Method 3. Complete control).

This entails that I create a template, uses the template to create
master and sub documents, and only add new, or modify, styles in the
template. I then have to close the document I'm working on and reopen
it for any style changes to be available in that document.
This gets veerryy tedious and noninteractive. Is there an easier way
to propagate changes to styles between the documents?
I would like to edit the styles in any document until they look right,
save changes to the template and then synchronize all the other
documents to the template, but I guess there's no way to make it that
simple...
