I apologize! Being a complete freshman in the OO world (and in discussion groups world as well), of course I didn't know who to address with this issue. But I got the impression that this issue IS important for (further) development of OO, so I put it in this discussion section, meant to be addressed "to who it might concern". (Developers? Other groups?) I'll try to make clear to you what all this is about. One of the fundamental reproaches from the OO world opposing Microsoft OOXML is: NOT correctly implementing ISO 8601: "MS is doing tricks with date values." That might be a very correct reproach. I always was very aware of the fact that MS actually used a wrong date system in past Excel versions; but not being a specialist, I didn't study the ECMA OOXML vs. OOo specs, so I never could express a sound point of view on that matter. But in my opinion, that reproach would implicate that OO would have to behave better than OOXML as far as ISO 8601 is concerned. If that would be true, I fail to understand why ISO 8601 complete extended date representation isn't DEFAULT in all OOo general and local versions. Of course, any user should be able to change CELL level format to localized date format representation. But basically, the ONLY correct formula bar representation should ALWAYS be according to ISO 8601 complete extended format. As should be the DEFAULT cell format in any localized OO version BEFORE intentionally applying a localized format. For unambiguous data: the latter only to be chosen if one is sure that ones data never would cross national boundaries. I hope it is clear now that in my opinion, this is about fundamental and essential principles of OO. And I apologize once more in case I unintentionally addressed wrong people and/or put my origional message in a wrong message section.
