There isn't any setting that I'm aware of that can disable a basic
function like selecting a range. It's certainly not in the dBASE file.
That format isn't very sophisticated - it's just a flat file with a
header. Once you open it in Calc, you have the full range of
capabilities. Calc doesn't care where the file came from.
As for saving in .csv format, that's just a matter of doing a file |
save as and selecting Text CSV as the output format. Same idea for
saving as XLS.
You can re-read my instructions and try them again - try them with an
empty spreadsheet to verify that there's nothing wrong with your copy of
OOo. Or send me the .dbf file (zip it up first) and I'll see if have a
problem with it.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately, holding down the shift, the CTRL or both doesn't do it.
Has my database some setting which is preventing me from copy multiple
fields?
I can highlight the entire database by clicking in the upper left
corner, but when I copy, all that appears in the spreadsheet is a
single ID number. Also, I am unable to save the database in a CSV
format, although I could create a report and save that in various word
processing formats.
Is there a way of converting the entire database to excel?
Any other ideas?
Thanks again.
I have never experienced all of this before.

Click on the column header (the A, B, C etc. at the top of the
column)
of the first column you want copied. That highlights the entire
column.
Next hold down the Shift key and click on the last column you want
copied. You can also select/deselect individual columns using a
ctrl-click.

Thank you for your email.
I am using Windows XP and the OO is version 2.2 or 2.1.
How do you select columns for copying? I have held the CTRL button
and
moved the cursor but it just highlights the next column.
Thanks.

How do I convert selected fields in a dbase table to a CSV file?
I have previously opened a new Calc spreadsheet and copied
columns
of a
table into the A1 cell. Then I could delete columns and save as a
CSV.
Now I can't select multiple columns (it's either 1 column or the
whole
table), and I cannot copy even a single column into the
spreadsheet.
Please advise the best way. Thanks.
Your comment on dBASE tables caught my eye because dBASE support
had
been broken in OOo Calc for some time (at least in the 64bit
version).
I'm glad to note that it is fixed now!
However, I can't reproduce your problem. I can delete or cut and
paste
multiple columns without any trouble. Perhaps your problem is
specific
to your environment?
I'm running Debian/Lenny on an AMD64 system using OOo 2.2.1 from
Debian/Sid. I'm pleased to report that the Sid version works way
better
than the version in Lenny, which is still back at 2.0.4 (ouch).
Which version are you running, on what platform? Perhaps someone
with
the same setup can reproduce your problem?
