I use OpenOffice.org 2.2.1. With effect from last night (16 JUL 07 MON), I
have not been able to type space more than once before a letter or a word,
in OpenOffice.org Writer. I can type a letter or a word, then type a space,
then a letter or a word, but I can type only one space. In other words, I
can type only one space between letters or words. When I try to type more
spaces, the I-beam does not move.
I can type as many spaces as I like when I press Ctrl + space. But I do not
want to have that non-breaking space.
I must have done something wrong.
I uninstalled OpenOffice.org 2.2.1, and even deleted the folder where the
software was unpacked, and deleted the empty folder in the computer's
Programs Folder. I downloaded the software again, unpacked it in a newly
created folder, and installed it.
But the same thing happened.
How can I type spaces normally as before?
There is a setting in OpenOffice that is meant to create just this
effect. Go to Tools | AutoCorrect... | Options. Is there a tick
against "Ignore double spaces"? Remove it.
Configuration options such as this seem to be stored per user rather
than per installation, so there is a configuration file somewhere in
your personal settings which retains this choice. (In Windows, it is
in Application Data in your profile.) These personal settings are
preserved across installations of the software, which is why
reinstalling the software - and even deleting the program files
folder - did not solve this problem.
