I have had the same problem - and ended up saving ALL work done in
open office as MS file types.... .doc .xls etc. When saving these
types of files there does not appear to be a problem.
If other software writers can manage to write applications that run
in Windows without problems, why can't contributors to Open Office.
Seems like it is a pretty brain damaged application if it cannot
save it's native file format in an operating system it was designed
to run under.
Isn't this the application that open source affecionados are hoping
will oust MS dominance from the PC/Windows marketplace?
I use OO purely because it is NOT an MS product, but it quite clearly
is miles behind other products - and as such will probably never
become a serously used application in the marketplace - a BIG shame.

In writer, about the 6th or so icon from the left looks like a pencil
lying on a sheet of notepaper. Does clicking on that icon enable the
formerly read-only document to be finally saved in .odt format?
