Boy, I'm having a bad (extended) day! Sorry ...
I want to use the TEXT function in Calc.
So:
I left-click on the cell I want to use.
The formula/value (?) bar comes up empty.
I left-click on the that is to the right of the Sigma and to the left of the
value field.
An equals sign appears at the beginning (left-most end) of the value field.
I left-click on the f(x) "button".
The function wizard comes up.
I double-left-click on the TEXT function in the "Function" selector field.
The dialog for the TEXT function appears in the right-hand portion of the box.
There are two arguments.
I left-click in the "number" field,
and then left-click on the cell whose contents I want to format.
I left-click on the "Format" field,
  and then I am lost ... ... ...
What sort of string do I put in there?
Should the string be quoted, or not?
What sort of things go in the string,
to cause digits, letters, and/or literal punctuation to come out in the
result?

Thanks again.
