Dear Sir/Madam

I downloaded Open Office but upon opening the file I was greeted with a box stating:

The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. this could be the result of a damaged disc or a virus. Youmay want to contact the author of this installer to obtain a new copy.

Could you explain this to me and how I can get a version that works?

I use Windows Vista and downloaded the general file for all types of Windows; this was how it was described. Myaybe you dont do software for Vista yet?

Yours faithfully,

Lauren

It is possible but unlikely that the file you downloaded is corrupt. Check the MD5sum to make sure.

The problem you are seeing is more likely to be caused by your Antivirus (AV) software thinking the file is a virus. This is a common problem and is not unique to OpenOffice. To solve it:
1. Disconnect your computer completely from the internet
2. Disable your AV and firewall (FW) software
3. Run the OpenOffice installer
4. Re-enable your AV and FW software
5. Reconnect to the internet; never leave your computer connected to the internet if your AV and FW software are not both running properly.

If this still doesn't help, come back here with details of what you did and the exact text of any error messages you got.
