In Outlook, click on EXPORT, I believe it's on the FILE menu. Export your
contacts in your address book as a CSV file (comma separated values). That will
give you all of your information in a text format. Then go to OpenOffice Calc
and open your CSV file. Everything will jump into the appropriate columns. You
can then use this new file for Mail Merge, E-mail Merge in any way that you
like. You may want to name your new Calc file as something slightly different
so that your original file is not overwritten.

To learn about this feature, click on the HELP in OpenOffice and read about
MailMerge.

Two good e-mail clients for Oo are Thunderbird, or SeaMonkey (browser with
mail client and webpage composer). Both are open source (Mozilla).

Hope this helps with your transition.

I can't help you with Outlook, but you might consider Scribus as a
replacement for Publisher.
