Hi Janice
One quick question- do you have or are you developing an Open Office
version of Publisher?
No, but here are some interesting and helpful points:
1. OpenOffice.org does include many desktop publshing features, which you
might like to experiment with. Here are some articles that will show you
what I mean:

http://mozillaquest.com/Linux03/OpenOffice-Writer-Newsletter_Story01.html
2. Most people I know who use Publisher, however, use it to create
documents like certificates and newsletters "automatically", needing
little knowledge or skill from the user. OpenOffice.org does not really
work this way, but Serif Software have a free program that is similar
called PagePlus:

3. If you are looking for a professional desktop publishing program, have
a look at Scribus, which is excellent:
http://www.scribus.net/
4. The only program that can open Microsoft Publisher documents is
Microsoft Publisher, so if you have a collection of Publisher Newsletters
already, none of these programs will be able to open them.
I hope this helps.
