Please advise. > Thanks very much, > Uri Schurder The reason is that you are saving/sending your files in the OOo (OpenOffice.org) default ODF (OpenDocument ISO/IEC 26300:2006 standard) file format. Microsoft refuses to include opening and saving of this ISO standard file format as an inbuilt option in their software offerings. Some suggestions: If the recipient only needs to read your document and does not need to edit/change it. Send it as a PDF (Portable Document Format) file, using the OOo "File -> Export As Pdf..." menu option. Almost every computer has the free Adobe Reader or equivalent pdf viewer program installed. If the recipient needs to edit/change your document, the options are: 1. Suggest that the recipient installs OOo. It is free and will coexist with Microsoft software. 2. Suggest that the recipient installs the free Sun ODF MS Office add-in, available from: http://www.sun.com/software/star/odf_plugin The current version of this add-in enables users of MS Office greater than version 98, to open, edit and save files in ODF format from Word, Excel and Powerpoint. 3. Use the OOo "File -> Save As..." or "File -> Send..." menu options and save/send your file in a format that MS Office is capable of reading (eg. plain text ".txt", Rich Text Format ".rtf", Word 97 ".doc", etc.) Some users will always take option # 3, because it takes less effort, which is extremely helpful to Microsoft in the perpetuation of their user lock-in tactics and helps restrict the uptake of open standards. Hope this helps. Dave - -- This is a mailing list which exists to support users of OpenOffice.org All answers are given by other users who volunteer their time.
