Well, I'll be, I guess since there wasn't much use in going there for so long,
I just stopped asking or looking. As much as that improves things, its
still a package. Why not have just one install executable? Then it would
install and work the same way on Debian, SUSE, RedHat, Mandrake, Windoze,
etc. Not only that, but I could decide to put it under /opt or
maybe /usr/local/ or maybe /nfs/otherbox/opt depending on my mood and or
policies.
I could also decide to drop certain features or extras, like I can in the
Windoze install.
Why am I forced to doing it the way the package manager person decided it
should happen?

Anyway, I don't think its going to change, despite all my rantings to the
contrary, and the fact that it makes sense, gives the user choice, etc. etc..
