not any. just MS Office. prior to Office 2007.

i believe even MS Office itself needs a separate converter to read MS Works.

i don't understand the implication of having sent in portrait
direction. On the other hand, do let us know the file extension of the
spreadsheet.

because you most probably saved the documents in the ISO approved
OpenDocument format which ensures that your documents will be viewable
and preserved for long times...beyond the life of the openoffice
project itself. on the other hand, your email recipients are still
struggling with non-standard products and file formats of MS Office.
If you intend your recipients only to read your documents then i would
suggest you to email the documents in PDF format.

wasting money is totally upto you. LGPL gives you the freedom to pay
or not pay for the version. If you really want to make up for $35 i
recommend you to download the latest version from
http://download.openoffice.org and distribute as many copies as you
can to all your email recipients and your friends, so you can help
make a small move towards ending MS Office monopoly and get more
benefits out of the $35 you spent.

Customers serve Microsoft. They don't serve customers. that's a myth.
