But buy the O'Reilly GIMP book. GIMP is very powerful, and it's
user-friendly to those who know it, but it's rather intimidating to the
novice.
My wife and 10 year old daughter can use it. Maybe not all the features
but they use it. My wife has gone through the tutorials to learn more
features.
It will work with RAW photos if that is necessary.
