Funny,
I tried on two different machines, two different versions of Fedora, to
export and play sound files but neither did it. I can play sounds (wav
files) with no problems on the machines.
Are you exporting in Linux or Windows?
My *.odp file is 13K and the ppt is 80K.
I tried playing the ppt file on two different Windows computers.
Did you make any settings change to embed the sound? I looked to see if
there is a setting and now I wonder as the wav files alone are over a
couple of megs in size. I may have missed a setting someplace. I have
looked a couple of times and I cannot see any setting for this.
I just tried to copy just the odp file and there was no sound so it
looks like a settings issue on my systems. What dumb luck.
With your help I did get the sound working now I have to get the exports
to work for all users automatically on reboot. I tried it in the
.bashrc and .bash_profile with partial success.
For testing I used an existing ppt that included sound. There are two
distinct .wav sound files that it uses: 1 of a UH-1 helicopter, and 2 of
a 21 gun salute & Tatto (TAPS). I opened the ppt in OOo Impress 2.3
(linux), played it to make sure the sound was working, and then saved as
a different ppt. I then copied that ppt to a different machine
(WindowsXPPro) - note I did not copy individual sound files with it -
and then opened the file in MS PowerPoint 2002 on that Windows machine.
The sound & slide show worked perfectly.
I also saved the above as an .odp. It plays perfectly on the linux
machine. That is because I have those sound files in my gallery, so the
presentation knows where to find them.
If I copy the .odp over to the Windows machine & play on OOo Impress
2.3 (windows) there is no sound as there are no .wav files for OOo to
use. Now if I copy the sound files over to the windows machine *and*
drag & drop them into the gallery, there still will be no sound as the
paths to the .wav files are different than on the linux machine. So, I
need to add them back in, then the .odp file plays just fine on the
windows machine. I've not yet had time to figure out how to embed the
sound files into the saved .odp so that it can be shared. In the
interim, saving to .ppt does the trick.
This is strange.
What happens if you create odp, add sound and then save it as a ppt?
I think this is where things go strange. I don't have a Windows machine
to create a ppt on. I guess I could try it at work but it is time to
get ready to go home. yeah.
Like you I am looking at ways to embed sound into the presentation. I
will have to search the issues later tonight to see what is happening.
I will also update the issue that I submitted yesterday on this issue.
Without the ability to embed sound, Impress is useless.
