Here was a post over on the website-dev list & my reply:

My reply:

Unless of course those 15 people stop helping & let the messages go into
the ether because they continually have to look at headers to see if a
post is moderated/unsubscribed or not...

Here is what I propose:

I believe that the original proposal to provide a msg to the
unsubscribed poster is a good one. In addition, I propose that *all*
unsubscribed messages be tagged with "[Moderated]" at the start of the
subject line.

Currently on the [email protected] list many unsubscribed posts are
not tagged as such, while some are. This creates a situation whereby
those of us that assist new/unsubscribed posters are required to look at
each header before responding to see if needs to be cc'd in the reply.
This places an unnecessary burden on list responders who are voluntarily
spending time assisting OOo. The situation becomes even more burdensome
for those responders that read and respond via the gmane news server as
many popular newsreaders (Thunderbird for example) are not capable of
filtering on headers such as:

Delivered-To: moderator for [email protected]

There is considerable debate as to whether unsubscribed messages should
even be allowed, one which most likely will not be resolved any time
soon. However, if unsubscribed postings are to allowed, then the
[Moderated] tag should be added to *all* unsubscribed postings.
