Hi All,
I am running CentOS release 4.5 (Final) and have installed/updated openoffice
2.0.4. I have several java environments installed under /usr/java:
j2sdk1.4.2_09
jdk1.5.0_05
jdk1.5.0_12
jre1.5.0_06
My problem is that I can't get java to be recognised by openoffice. When running
the wizard, openoffice just hangs/freezes and I have to kill the process.
I have tried to make settings through Tools>Options>Java but that dialog freezes
openoffice, too, and I have to kill the application again.
I found the javavendors.xml file on the system under
/usr/lib/openoffice.org2.0/share/config. When I move this file to
javavendors.xml.orig I can use the Tools>Options>Java without openoffice
freezing but I can't add a new java environment. If I place and empty
javavendors.xml in the config directory the same happens. Running the wizard
asks me to enable java with this configuration and when I do I see later under
Tools>Options>Java that the check box to use java is enabled. I still can't add
a java environment and java still doesn't work.
My questions are why does openoffice freeze when trying to configure java and
why can't I add a jvm through the Tools>Options>Java?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
Tom

I forgot to mention that I'm on a an x86_64 (64bit) system. Also I've just
discovered that java is auto detected on my laptop (runing OO 2.0.4,
RedHatLinux5, and i386 (32 bit). Is my issue a missing 32bit library on the
64bit system? Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

Hi All,

Is there anyone out there with some ideas? I find it strange that the same
version of OOo detects java on one system but not on the other. Any help is
appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom
I don't know about CentOS, but there can be problems with mixing 64-bit and 32-bit applications. I presume the OOo you are running is 32-bit, do you have a 32-bit java installed? I don't think it can use 64-bit java.
