I fully agree.
My advice to try the most recent version of OpenOffice.org (which you
omitted) indicates that.
But, from experience, I'm not at all surprised to find any product,
including OpenOffice.org, introducing new bugs in new versions and this
forum includes many examples in respect to OpenOffice.org.
So I'm not going to advise anyone, unconditionally, that downloading a
new version of OpenOffice.org will, of necessity, do everything that an
older version does.
I did advise him to try the most recent version supported by his
software which mostly likely, considering the odds, he will find works
better than his old version.
