To download, go to http://www.openoffice.org/
click on the button that says "get open office.org version 2.3"
On the next screen click "Download open office.org select your operating
system and off you go"
The next screen has several options, but the first "Windows All Versions
(<98)" is the one you want.
If that doesn't work for you please let us know what happens.
Once the download is complete you will need to click on the setup file
and Open Office should install.

Would you please tell us exactly what the whole line, or lines, about
being unable to download said? It would probably be helpful to
know the
whole of the other messages, also, but I think the reason you were
unable to download would probably give us a clue to the whole issue.
I'm also not sure what your reference to MS Works pertains to.
