OpenOffice can read and write PowerPoint presentations. OpenOffice is an office suite, that's an excellent alternative to MS Office. It has excellent support for MS Office files, other than the latest OOXML formats. It also supports the ISO ODF file formats, which MS refuses to support. OpenOffice is a free download from www.openoffice.org

BTW, you might also suggest to your friend, that they also install OpenOffice.
