If you are using KDE, have you tried placing a link to swriter in 
~/.kde/Autostart/ ? That should open Writer each time you log in. If you 
want OOo to start but not have an untitled document opened, use a link to 
soffice instead. Open Konsole while in the ~/.kde/Autostart/ folder. 
ln -s /opt/openoffice.org/programs/swriter
This will create the link.
