Hi:

I recently installed Vista Home Basic on a new system. I have also now
installed OpenOffice.org v 2.3.

My old Windows ME software would open all my old .doc and .wps files. When
these .doc and .wps files were transferred to Vista, Vista labeled all of these
"non-.rtf" files as OpenDocument Text. When I try to open them, I get the drop
down Filter menu, but there is nothing that opens these files.

OpenOffice.org Writer is a standard part of Vista, but I downloaded
OpenOffice.org v 2.3 anyway. No improvement. Even when I choose OpenDocument
Text from the filter menu,(it's right below StarChart 4.0 and right above
Microsoft Word 2003 XML in the filter selection) the response is: "General
error - General input/output error." I still cannot open any of the older .wps
or .doc files. that are named OpenDocument text.

What can I do? The only text files I can open are the ones in .rtf Rich Text
format, and I cannot open any of the others to convert them. I'm stuck!!
Please Help!
