After installing Open Office on windows this week, we get the message

"The publisher could not be verified, are you sure you want to run this software? Click RUN or CANCEL. This file does not have a valid digital signature that verifies it's publisher. You should only run software from publishers you trust."

Is this because Open Office is a free software and not recognized my Microsoft?

Please advise. Should we run Open Office or is there danger of a virus?

If you got it from www.openoffice.org, you can trust it. There are also instructions on that site, for using md5sums to verify package integrity.
